With the publication of the encyclopedia of risk research in 2019, there have been discussions about the next encyclopedia, in addition to introducing and reviewing the content of the 2019 encyclopedia at the annual meeting. This paper reports on the planning session, entitled “Thinking about the next encyclopedia of risk research.” The topics included “An overview of the risk science using structural topic model and its relationship to the encyclopedia of risk research”, “Analyzing public risk concern using social listening and its relationship with the encyclopedia of risk research”, “Evaluation of the encyclopedia of risk research through comparing similar books in related fields”, and “The next perspectives after the encyclopedia of risk research 2019”. The session highlighted that it is worthwhile to incorporate risk events that are substantially related to risk, even if the word “risk” is not used, in the next encyclopedia.
