Abstract
Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality and requires urgent intervention.Interventional radiology(IVR)is widely used as a treatment for postpartum hemorrhage because it is minimally invasive and preserves the uterus. This retrospective analysis involved 19 cases in which IVR was used to treat postpartum hemorrhage at our hospital between April 2019 and August 2024.The modes of delivery were vaginal delivery in 14 cases and cesarean section in 5 cases. The causes of bleeding were birth canal laceration in 7 cases, placenta accreta or retained placenta in 6 cases, uterine pseudoaneurysm in 2 cases, placental abruption in 1 case, placenta previa in 1 case, and other causes in 2 cases.Failure was defined as complications or rebleeding after IVR and occurred in 4 cases. The overall success rate for IVR was 78.9%.All cases of failure were associated with placenta accreta or retained placenta. However, even in cases of placenta accreta or retained placenta,IVR may be useful for temporary bleeding control when further treatment options are available.
