Abstract
The rarity of adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas has been established. We report a case of adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas that developed colonic obstruction ; we also review the relevant literature. A 58-year old woman developed abdominal pain, and a colonic obstruction was diagnosed. On X-ray studies a total colonic obstruction located at the splenic flexture was found, and an emergency loop colostomy of the transverse colon was done. Further examinations revealed descending colon cancer with invasion of the pancreas and liver metastasis (S6). The patient had a distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy, a left colectomy, and a partial liver (S6) resection histology, an adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas, INFγ, ly3, v3, ne2, mpd (+), T4, N1, fM1, stage 4b was diagnosed. Three months post surgery, the patient has had no signs of recurrent pancreatic cancer.
