Abstract
Porcelain gallbladder is defined as calcification of the gallbladder wall and is frequently accompanied by gallbladder cancer. However, a case of porcelain gallbladder characterized by diffuse intramural calcification with gallbladder cancer is rare. Here, we report a case in which porcelain gallbladder of the diffuse intramural calcification type was treated by single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
The patient was a 75-year-old woman with porcelain gallbladder. She frequently experienced pain in the right upper abdomen. Porcelain gallbladder in this patient was classified as diffuse intramural calcification type on the basis of the findings revealed by various imaging modalities, and single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed. The operation time was 161 min, and intraoperative blood loss was minimal. Histological examination of the excised gallbladder revealed no malignancy. The postoperative course was uneventful, and she was discharged on postoperative day 7. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is indicated in patients with porcelain gallbladder of the diffuse intramural calcification type. Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy was feasible and safe for the treatment of porcelain gallbladder in our patient.
