Abstract
We report a case of Burkitt's lymphoma with an ileocecal intussusceptions. A 14-year-old boy had abdominal pain. An ileocecal intussusception was diagnosed on computed tomography. Since his condition did not require emergent surgery, several preoperative examinations were performed. On colonoscopy, a tumor was found in the cecum. On pathology of the biopsy specimen, a malignant B cell lymphoma was diagnosed. The tumor was limited to the cecum, and since the patient had an intussusception a surgical resection was performed. Following ileocecal resection, the histology was suspicious of Burkitt's lymphoma. Thus, a gating examination and in situ hybridization (FISH) were performed. Based on the results Burkitt's lymphoma was confirmed. At postoperative day 12, he was referred to another institution for chemotherapy ; complete disease remission was obtained. Most patient's with Burkitt's lymphoma have a dismal prognosis. It is important to do an extensive tumor resection and to give intensive postoperative chemotherapy in patients with Burkitt's lymphoma.
