Abstract
Splenectomy has been the historical treatment for splenic cysts with a high level of serum CA19-9, due to its malignant potential. However, recently reports of dome resection have been increasing because radiological diagnosis has improved recently and most pathological examinations in the past failed to prove malignancy. We performed laparoscopic dome resection for a splenic cyst with simple and homogenous content on a 29-year-old woman after checking during an intraoperative cytological examination. Here we summarize previous reports and discuss the diagnosis and management for splenic cysts with high CA19-9 levels.
