Abstract
A 75-year-old female was admitted due to right inguinal pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed herniated intestine filled with intestinal gas ; a right incarcerated femoral hernia was diagnosed. We performed emergency surgery using a femoral approach combined with laparoscopy. Laparoscopy showed that the small intestine was herniated into the right femoral canal. The incarcerated hernia was released by cutting the iliopubic tract via a femoral approach. After confirming laparoscopically that the color of the strangulated portion of the intestine had improved, the hernial hilum was repaired using a piece of Mesh Plug® via the femoral approach. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on the ninth postoperative day. A femoral approach with laparoscopy is a good option for an incarcerated hernia without ischemia of the intestine.
