Abstract
Pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA), especially the peripheral type, is a rare condition. We experienced the case of an 81-year-old man with peripheral PAA. He was undergoing treatment at our hospital for hepatocellular carcinoma and had undergone hepatic partial resection, transarterial injection, and radiofrequency ablation earlier. He was admitted to our hospital for abdominal pain. Following the sudden onset of hemoptysis and respiratory failure, he was immediately intubated. Ruputured PAA was detected by CT. Endovascular coil embolization was chosen for treatment because of his advanced age and poor general condition, and the treatment was successful. He was extubated the day after embolization. PAA is a fatal disease and has to be treated by surgery, drugs, or coil embolization. We found 4 cases of peripheral PAA treated by coil embolization at in Japanese literature research. All these patients were treated by embolization and their progress was satisfactory. We report our case together with a literature review.
