Abstract
A 70-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of severe anemia. Gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a Type 3 tumor at the cardia of the stomach, and the biopsy specimen revealed adenocarcinoma. Abdominal US and CT showed tumor thrombus in the splenic vein. Total gastrectomy with resection of the body and tail of the pancreas and spleen encompassing the splenic vein tumor thrombus was performed. The main tumor lesion and the tumor thrombus were histologically analogous to moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. Gastric cancer with a tumor thrombus in the splenic vein is rare, with only 28 such cases having been reported in Japan.
