Abstract
A 61-year-old man was referred to our hospital due to a mass detected in his right upper abdomen, which CT identified as a well-delineated right suprarenal calcified mass 50 mm in diameter. MRI of the mass showed low signal intensity on T1-weighted imaging and high signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging. No abnormal accumulation was observed on MIBG scintiscan or methyl norcholesterol scintigraphy. Endocrinological examination exhibited nearly normal function of both the cortical and medullary adrenal gland. Preoperatively, the mass was suspected to be a non-functional left adrenal tumor or a retroperitoneal tumor. On laparotomy, the tumor was found to be derived from the right adrenal gland and was resected. Histopathological examination revealed an adrenal cortical adenoma with massive hemorrhage. Although trauma can cause adrenal hemorrhage, adrenal cortical adenomas with hemorrhage are considered to be rare.
