Abstract
We present a rare case of a true cyst in the pancreatic head. A 47-year-old female was admitted due to an abdominal mass complicated by pain. The abdominal mass was a cystic lesion in the pancreatic head, which had been previously noted and was being observed ; it had increased in size to more than 10 cm in diameter. Blood analysis showed elevated pancreatic enzyme, transaminase, and total bilirubin levels. Abdominal CT scan and MRI showed three contiguous round cysts in the pancreatic head. The lesion compressed the MPD and the CBD, disturbing passage of bile and pancreatic juice. Since the clinical features and images were suggestive of a malignant tumor, a pancreatoduodenectomy was done as a form of radical therapy and to obtain the whole cystic lesion for biopsy. On histology the lesion was diagnosed as a true cyst of the pancreas.
