We report a case of sternal metastasis of breast cancer in which we performed sternal reconstruction by using DualMesh®, which is used for reconstruction of the chest and abdominal wall, with a favorable clinical course.
The patient was a 56-year-old woman who underwent modified radical mastectomy for right breast cancer in 2001 and had been treated with endocrine therapy until 2005, when metastases appeared in the right supraclavicular and mediastinal lymph nodes and the sternum. Thereafter the endocrine therapy was changed in the ingredients and chemotherapy and radiotherapy were added, but still the sternal tumor was left. The sternal tumor tended to enlarge and pain also developed, for that the resection of the body of sternum was performed in 2011. DualMesh® was used for the sternal reconstruction. The histological diagnosis was metastasis of breast cancer ; and the surgical margins were negative. No thoracic fluctuations relating to respiration were observed and the pain relieved. There have been no signs of recurrence up to now.
