A 58-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of a hepatic tumor which was pointed out by an abdominal echography at a neighboring hospital. An abdominal CT scan revealed a deeply stained tumor in the early phase in the segment 6 of the liver. Malignant tumor arisen in the liver was diagnosed and S6 subsegmentectomy of liver was performed. The tumor was a 26-mm diameter solid tumor. Histology revealed proliferation of oval-shaped cells in a so-called hemangiopericytoma-like pattern. Immunohistochemisry of the tumor cells revealed CD34 and vimentin positive. Accordingly solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the liver was diagnosed. No recurrence has occurred as of one year after the operation. In this case pathological malignant findings were confirmed so that careful follow-up observation would be mandatory. SFT arises predominantly in the pleura and extremely rarely in the liver. This case of SFT of the liver is reported with a review of the literature.
