Abstract
A 15-year-old boy suffered a bruise on the upper abdominal region due to the handlebar of his bicycle. On the day following the accident, he reported to the emergency clinic in our hospital complaining of abdominal pain. A contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography scan revealed retroperitoneal emphysema and fluid collection. Emergency surgery was performed. Intraoperative findings revealed a perforation about 2 cm in diameter in the third portion of duodenum. Simple sutures and closure were used. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on the 20th postoperative day. In this paper, we present our experience with a case of traumatic duodenal perforation, together with a review of the literature.
