A Case of Non-invasive Ductal Carcinoma of the Male Breast that was Detected by Screening FDG-PET

Abstract
A 56-year-old man was referred to us for further evaluation of focal FDG uptake (SUVmax 2.5) just under the left nipple that was detected on FDG-PET screening. A little finger-sized tumor was palpable just under the left nipple. Ultrasonography revealed a lobulated hypoechoic mass with irregular margins. On mammography, the lobulated tumor shadow (12 × 7 mm) in the E region was diagnosed as Category 3. Core needle biopsy suggested non-invasive ductal carcinoma. The patient underwent mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Axillary lymph node dissection was avoided because intraoperative pathological examination revealed no metastasis to the sentinel lymph node. Pathologically, a non-invasive ductal carcinoma stage 0 (pTis, pN0, cM0) was diagnosed. Postoperatively, oral tamoxifen was administered. No signs of recurrence have been seen during the 17 months of follow-up. Here we describe a case of non-invasive ductal carcinoma in a male patient that was detected on FDG-PET screening.
