Abstract
We report a case of schwannoma of the breast, which was diagnosed preoperatively. The patient, a woman, had undergone left nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma at 58 years of age. Follow-up computed tomography performed when the patient was a 66-year-old showed a tumor in the right breast. On physical examination, there was no palpable breast tumor, nor were there any palpable regional lymph nodes. Ultrasonography revealed a well-demarcated hypoechoic elliptical mass (9.3 mm in diameter) in the lower outer quadrant of the breast, however, mammography did not reveal any lesion. Fine-needle aspiration cytology was reported as “indeterminate”, but was strongly suggestive of schwannoma of the breast. Core needle biopsy and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis. Tumor extirpation was performed, and 2 tumors were found in the same segment of the breast.
