Abstract
A 39-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with intussusception was referred to our hospital and underwent open appendectomy. A tender, hard mass was found in the right lower abdomen. Abdominal CT showed a giant, calcified mass in the ascending colon and ileocecal intussusception was suspected. An elevated lesion like a submucosal tumor was found in the cecum on colonoscopic examination. The appendiceal orifice was present at the top. Appendiceal intussusception from fecal cluster was therefore diagnosed. We performed laparoscopic ileocecal resection to prevent recurrent intussusception. Histopathological examination after surgery found no malignant lesions in the mass. We therefore diagnosed the patient with secondary appendiceal intussusception caused by fecal cluster in the residual appendix. We report this rare case of appendiceal intussusception with a review of the literature.
