Abstract
There are few reports on the laparoscopic repair of lumber hernias developing after nephrectomy. We report 2 such cases in women in their 70s. Hernia developed after right nephrectomy in one case and after left nephrectomy in the other. We performed laparoscopy with the patients in the side half lying position, which confirmed the hernial orifice ; we placed a mesh sufficiently large to cover the orifice, and fixed it in place using an absorbable tacker and nonabsorbable suture. The postoperative condition of the patients was good, and they were discharged soon after. No relapse has been observed. For superior lumbar hernia after nephrectomy, the identification of the hernial orifice and mesh fixation by a frontal approach are believed to be difficult, but laparoscopy may make the procedure easier, contributing to the reduction in relapse rate.
