Abstract
Inguinal hernia is one of the most common benign indications for surgical procedures. Significant medical cost reductions have been demonstrated when inguinal hernia surgery was conducted on a day-surgery basis.
In day surgery, the choice of procedures and anesthesia methods is important for avoiding complications and recurrence. Good presurgery preparations and staff training are necessary. The reasons for the current departure from surgical practice are hard work, low wages, and lack of a sense of reward. Day surgery can overcome these difficulties and attract young physicians, particularly female physicians.
Inguinal hernia surgery can be conducted by any surgeon, anywhere, at any time, whether on a day-surgery basis or not. The first-choice procedure should be the anterior approach, which has the least complication and recurrence rates.
