Abstract
We report a case of serrated polyposis syndrome with early colon cancers involving successful laparoscopic total colectomy. A 66-year-old woman with multiple colonic polyps was referred for further endoscopic treatment. Fourteen polyps were resected using endoscopic mucosal resection or submucosal dissection involving 5 colonoscopies over 3 years. Nine polyps were sessile serrated adenoma/polyps > 10 mm in size, located in the right-sided colon. Two polyps were cancerous, one of which was intramucosal and the other involved the submucosal layer with venous invasion. Laparoscopic total colectomy was performed. The resected specimens showed a total of 272 polyps, ranging from 2 mm to 16 mm in size, which were diagnosed as hyperplastic or sessile serrated adenoma/polyps. No cancer or lymph node metastases remained. Laparoscopic total colectomy is a suitable treatment for serrated polyposis syndrome with multiple colon cancers.
