Abstract

Gallbladder bleeding is a rare condition. We encountered three cases in our department, each managed with a different treatment approach. Case 1 involved a 38-year-old man. He was discharged from the hospital 9 days after undergoing an emergency laparotomy cholecystectomy. Case 2 was a 60-year-old woman who presented to our hospital with a chief complaint of right upper abdominal pain. We made a preoperative diagnosis of gallbladder bleeding using computed tomography (CT) and performed a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Postoperatively, a hematoma in the common bile duct was suspected ; however, a repeat CT confirmed improvement, and the patient was discharged from the hospital 5 days after surgery. The pathological finding in both cases was chronic cholecystitis with no malignant features. Case 3 involved a 79-year-old man who was suspected to have cholecystitis and gallbladder bleeding during hospitalization for acute exacerbation of COPD. His symptoms improved with conservative treatment, and he was discharged. Two months later, he visited our emergency room with abdominal pain and he underwent an emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy with the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis. He was discharged 3 days after surgery. Here, we report the course of each case along with a discussion of the literature.
