We investigated the results of treatment for 270 cases of chronic headache. Of these 48% of the patients had been suffering from this condition for a period of two weeks. In 71.5% of the cases the course of the illness was one year, in 22.6% it was more than ten years.
31% of the cases were diagnosed as originating from muscular contraction and 21% showed combined symptoms of vascular and muscular contraction.
Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment was found to produce excellent or good results in 53.1% of the cases, while acupuncture-moxibustion therapy in combination with nerve-block therapy was successful in 52.6% of the cases.
We found that in non-traumatic cases of chronic headache, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is quite effective.
