It is an interesting problem to show the reason depends it that the experimental results of the buckling stress of curved panel differ very much from the calculated results. Recently, Th. von KarmanTien suggested that this fact is explained by so the called "Durchschlag". Follwing their suggestion, the author calculated the critical value of "Durchschlag" by the strain-energy method using the inclination angles θ & φ, and studied statistically the experimental results. He wants to explain that Donnel's experimental formula of thin cylinder seems to the erroneous conclusion.
