The background history of the buckling of thinwalled circular cylinders when subjected to axial load and internal pressure is reviewed.
A series of circular cylinders made of Mylar was tested and the effects of the internal pressure of cylinders were also investigated by experiments.
The values of δcr=(σcr/E)·(R/t) were determined as a function of the geometric variables and the pressure parameter p=(p/E)(R/t)(R/t)2.
