The age of patients who undergo surgery and the number of high-risk surgeries have increased in recent years. Anesthesiologists were required to provide safe intraoperative management in the past, but they are now required to provide safe perioperative management. We have established a center for perioperative management where anesthesiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and dental hygienists are always present to systematically perform preoperative consultations for all patients who undergo surgery. All laboratory data are available by the time patients visit the center, and other specialists can be consulted if necessary. This allows us to perform efficient and high-quality preoperative evaluations. This paper describes the actual operation of the center for perioperative management at our hospital.
