Abstract
Objectives : Basal cell adenoma (BCA) is a rare benign basaloid neoplasm of the salivary gland. We investigate the possibility of BCA of the parotid gland exhibiting specific cytological features.
Study Design : We reviewed the cytology specimens of 10 resected cases of BCA of the parotid gland at Kitano Hospital from June 2006 to December 2010.
Results : The presence of nests of basaloid cells, three-dimensional clusters, small angled clusters, crushed cells, cells with dark nuclei framing the periphery of the cell clusters and foamy cells might be specific cytological features of BCA.
Conclusion : We confirmed and proposed several cytological findings as characteristic features of BCA.
