Abstract
A large quantity of Methotrexate was injected to the Wistar rats (female) so that artificial folic acid deficiency would be made in order to find the folic acid deficient cells.
As a result, multinucleated large cells and intracytoplasmic vacuolation were found. But nuclear hypersegmentation of neutrophil, which is a specific phenomenon of the folic acid deficiency, was not found.
On the other hand, the vaginal smears of the patient who had been injected Methotrexate against her breast cancer were observed.
In consequence, large cells, intracytoplasmic vacuolation and crumples of cytoplasma were confirmed in her vaginal smears.
Morphologic change of the folic acid deficient cells of the rats was more prominent in comparison with that of the patient of breast cancer. It is probably because the dose of Methotrexate injected to the rats was extremely large.
The changes of the folic acid deficient cells of both rats and the patient were not seemed to increase day by day.
