A new criteria of cytology in attempt to make the numerical system of rating of diagnostic cytology of the uterine corpus cancer

Abstract

We tried to make a new numerical system of rating endometrial carcinoma of diagnostic cytology.
Subjects: Subjects were 10 cases of endometrial car cinoma discovered in Tokyo Metropolitan Service Center of Cancer from 1973 to 1979. For comparison we used 10 cases of normal endometrium and 5 cases of endometrial hyperplasia.
Method: Smears were collected by Jet Washer technique and Papanicolaou stained. We took smear microphotographs and examined the special features. The special features were put under five headings of anisonuclei, nucleoli, chromatin, overlapping of cells and forms of appearance of cells, and we gave each head 0 to 2 points according to these changes.
Results: Normal cases 0-3 (4) points
Endometrial hyperplasia 4-6 (7) points
Endometrial carcinoma over 7 points to 10 points
At this point of cytolgy of endometrial carcinoma, it is very difficult to make a diagnosis of cancer with one pattern.
In practice, there are many different features.
Therefore, it is more practical to make a diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma by our new numerical system of rating.
