Abstract
This study revealed importance of conization for establishing final diagnosis of early neoplasia of uterine cervix in association with cytology and colposcopically directed biopsy.
Final diagnosis made by conization was completely corresponding to histologic result examined in removed uterus. Cytology preliminarily and correctly made detected 42.9% of carcinoma in situ and 50.0% of microinvasive carcinoma. On the other hand, colposcopically directed biopsies made accurate diagnosis for 77.1% of carcinoma in situ and 53.6% of microinvasive carcinoma. In cases of UCF, however, the correct diagnosis tends to be lower than visual cases.
The accurate detecting rate coincided with the final diagnosis in 78.9% of carcinoma in situ and 91.7% of microinvasive carcinoma when cytologic diagnosis was identical with colposcopically directed biopsies.
Conization is most accurate for diagnosing early cervical carcinoma and, therefore, the test should be added to avoidundertreatment due to underestimation of the lesion.
