Optical behavior of 3-D photoelastic model, in which continuous rotation of secondary principalstress axes and secondary principal-stress differences exist, is represented by a general formula based on Aben's equation. Two scattered-light methods are explained with this formula: one is conventional scattered-light method and the other is the one recently by authors. We propose that nondestructive measurement of 3-D stress distribution in the photoelastic model by using both scattered-light methods can be realized easily. Experimental confirmations of the proposition are made in the case of a frozen stress sphere under compression.
