Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify the process of integrating Physical Education and Sports Outreach practice (PESO) as Olympic and Paralympic Education (OPE) through the examination of the meaning for athletes as external lecturer. Then, we applied life story analysis of a narrative approach that is effective in clarifying the meaning of experience.

As a result, it became clear that the athletes who served as external lecturer found three meanings in the process of realizing “lectures that convey the importance of challenges” and “practical instruction that conveys the importance of communication” while reflecting on their own experiences and receiving support from others. The first is the “place for proficiency in instructional skills” where the students acquired the knowledge and skills necessary for practicing PESO. The second is a “place for discovering the educational value of self and professional sports”, in which they discovered aspects that can be used in the practice of PESO from among the various characteristics of the self as an athlete and goalball. The third is a “place for self-development” in which the athletes themselves, who are external instructors, have changed and found meaning in their future careers and ways of life. Moreover, these implications suggest the possibility that the process of integrating OPE serves as a place of vertical and horizontal learning for athletes as external lecturer.
