Abstract

It is said that sports for the handicapped have started to flourish in Japan recent years. However, it is hard to say that most of the handicapped routinely participate in sporting activities.
To increase interest and participation in handicapped sports, the following steps should be taken.
1. We should provide areas for sporting activities. We must place instructors and volunteers there for the handicapped.
2. We need to increase the number of handicapped athletes who take part in recreational sports as well as competitive events.
3. We must realize national system for training instructors who specialize in asking the handicapped. We need to increase the number of instructors and to systematize the content and method of instruction.
4. We must strive for the integration of the handicapped and advancing their sports as part of citizens sports.
