This study aims to introduce the current reform of the National Curriculum of Physical Education (NCPE) in England & Wales. Furthermore this study aims to focus on the role of assessment in the NCPE. The results are summarised as follows: 1) The NCPE introduced the criterion-referenced evaluation system for learning assessment. The introduction was intended to utilize the role of formative evaluation in order to improve learning and teaching in lessons. 2) The NCPE introduced the learning process model for the attainment targets and the standards of assessment. As compared with the Course of Study on Physical Education in Japan, it seems that it is characterised by the inquiry of acquiring the movement.
