Abstract

Previous studies reported the use of CT-based evaluation of the psoas major muscle(PMM)to diagnose sarcopenia and assess its association with survival in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia(CLTI). The findings suggested a relationship between preoperative PMM CT imaging and ambulation upon hospital discharge. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between preoperative PMM CT findings and ambulation upon hospital discharge in patients with CLTI. The subjects were male patients with CLTI(66 patients)who were admitted to our hospital. The patients were divided into an assisted ambulation group(31 patients)and an independent ambulation group(35 patients). Comparisons between the two groups were conducted, and logistic regression analysis was performed with ambulation at hospital discharge as the dependent variable. As a result, the odds ratio for the modified total gluteus maximus muscle gauge(m-TPG:PMI×maximum value of left and right psoas major muscle density)was 1.01(p=0.043), and the cutoff value was 165.5. These findings suggest that m-TPG in male CLTI patients is associated with ambulation at hospital discharge.
