Abstract
Extramedullary plasmacytomas are rare plasma cell tumors that occur mainly in head and neck lesions. We report three cases of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the head and neck. In case 1, the tumor was localized in the right nasal cavity and maxillary sinus. This case was treated by tumor resection followed by postoperative radiation of 50 Gy due to poor surgical safety margin. In case 2, the tumor was localized in the bilateral ethmoid sinuses. This case was treated by radiation of 50 Gy because of difficulty of en bloc resection. In case 3, the tumor was localized in the right tonsil. This case was treated by surgery. As the surgical safety margin was judged to be sufficient histopathologically, neither postoperative radiation nor chemotherapy was performed. These three cases have been followed for 36-48 months without recurrence or conversion to multiple myeloma.
