Abstract
The parapharyngeal space is prone to various complications because of its complexity; such complications are thought to depend to a large degree on the selection of operation approach. A transoral approach is a minimally invasive method, but has long been considered unsuitable for enormous tumors. We treated two cases with a huge parapharyngeal tumor diagnosed as Schwannoma in our hospital. We selected a transoral approach under navigation system and successfully resected the tumors. Concomitant use of endoscopy and a nerve integrity monitor response system presented a clear view and preservation of function of the cranial nerve, respectively. A transoral approach under various types of mechanical support should be considered for patients with parapharyngeal tumor.
