Abstract
Parotid tumors originating from the nervous system are rare, and their diagnosis is difficult because there are various histological types. Here we report a case with an intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma.
The patient was a 30-year-old man with a mass in the right parotid gland. We diagnosed the mass as a facial nerve schwannoma using computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and fine needle aspiration cytology. During surgery, we diagnosed the tumor as an intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma by the positional relationship of the tumor and facial nerve and performed intracapsular excision. After surgery, the facial nerve paralysis score was 20/40. Therefore, hydrocortisone sodium succinate, adenosine triphosphate disodium hydrate, and mecobalamin were administered. Two months before surgery, the score was 32/40. The patient is still under observation.
