A perceptual evaluation was conducted, comparing a specialist and general public opinions regarding High Definition, FM Printing methods. As a result of the perceptual evaluation, the “steel”and “machine”design of original medium were recognized to be different, however only by a small amount. Moreover, the perceptual evaluation of FM Printing indicated the same result. Also, the effect for “desirable”printing in multiple correlation analysis showed that “sharpness”of both steel and machine mediums proved to be signifigan. These opinions differ from those of the general public who tended to disagree with the signifigance of the result. 175 lines per inch of high definition printing was better than 300 and 700 lines per inch in highlight, which is good for middle tone reproduction.
