Various amusement robots are getting popular recently. Among these robots, computer controlled automata (CCA) can entertain people by a variety of dancing motions with music and are expected to be used everywhere. However, the performance of CCA is evaluated subjectively by watching its dancing motions, which makes the design of CCA difficult.
In this paper we propose the use of simulation software to make the design of CCA simple and efficient. The simulation software can emulate the continuous dancing motions of a pre-defined model of CCA with music. The important design factors of a CCA model are the locations of joints and the number of joints. The Open GL is used to create the graphical image of the CCA and MIDI data is used for the music. Dancing motions of the CCA with the five and six degrees of freedom are evaluated with semantic differential (SD) method. Result of the SD method shows which joint is impressive in the dancing motions; thus, the effectiveness of the simulation software in designing better CCA is demonstrated.
