Abstract
This study deals with the influence of the layout and shapes of 2 colors on arrangement phenomenon. 3 kinds of shape patterns, namely, check, border and stripe pattern were adopted in this experiment, and 2 colors were selected from 8 kinds of colors, namely, yellow, pale yellow, magenta, pale magenta, cyan, pale cyan, blue and pale blue. The distance between the designed plane and the position which assimilation phenomenon occurs was examined in order to determine the assimilation phenomenon quantitatively. The results obtained in this study are shown as follows; (1) The distance between the designed plane and the position which assimilation phenomenon occurs depended on the combination and shapes of 2 colors.(2) The distance which assimilation phenomenon occurs shortened in order of check, border and stripe pattern.(3) The distance which assimilation phenomenon occurs increased with increase of pitch width of 2colors. The relationship between this distance and pitch width could be expressed by using power function.(4) It became clear that assimilation phenomenon depends largely on shape more than colors.(5) The discrimination degree of check pattern followed approximately Weber-Fechner's law. But, those of border and stripe pattern followed less likely that law.
