The guided wave technique has been expected as a very promising technique for rapid long-range inspection of pipeworks. In order to meet practical demands, however, both non-axisymmetric modes and axisymmetric modes should be used based on more elaborate theoretical studies. This paper describes the extraction technique for analyzing a non-axisymmetric mode. The technique is formulated using the orthogonal characteristic of guided wave circumferential modes, and verified experimentally with magnetostrictive sensors that provide very accurate signals with no coupling medium.
