This paper is concerned with the quantitative non-destructive evaluation of the wall thinning of large-sized steel tubes and / or the outer walls of fuel tanks in oil-refining plants using the Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) technique. The time variation of the magnetic flux density and eddy current in ferromagnetic metal was revealed using a nonlinear finite element and step-by-step method. The necessary performance of the measuring instrument and apparatus was found and the sizing accuracy for steel plates was examined. In these results, it is shown that it is possible to measure the thickness of steel plates using the time variation in a search coil of proposed sensor.
