Abstract
When clinical research is carried out, it is now mandatory to use appropriate statistical analysis. Some may feel that mastering statistics would be difficult, but it is not. To select appropriate statistical analysis, one should first determine the type of data obtained (continuous, discrete, nominal, or ordinal). In pain research, the visual analogue scale (VAS) is frequently used, and the data can be continuous, discrete, nominal, or ordinal, depending on the method to obtain the data. For hypothesis tests, the selection of parametric or nonparametric tests is possible only by deciding the type of data obtained.
