Abstract
[Aim] This study was carried out to elucidate the effect of a long term intake of an isomaltulose(palatinose)-based balanced formula(Inslow)on abdominal visceral fat area, glucose tolerance and lipid metabolism.
[Patients and Methods] Nineteen healthy volunteers (11 men and 8 women) concerning with obesity were registered to take 250ml(250 Kcal)of Inslow every morning at breakfast for 3 months.
[Results] Intake of Inslow for 3 months significantly reduced abdominal visceral fat area on novel level without reduction of body weight, and decreased total cholesterol level and LDL/HDL ratio significantly. Inslow intake made a significant reduction of serum insulin level at 30 min on oral glucose tolerance test, and a decrease of HOMA-IR. A long-term intake of inslow showed no harmful effect.
[Conclusion] These data indicates that the Inslow intake might have potentialities as one of useful methods to prevent metabolic syndrome.
