Abstract
Our new apparatus, called 'Mechanofusion System', which was developed by modifying a dry attrition type mill, can grind different kinds of powder materials down to submicron level, disperse them uniformly, and change them into composite particles.
In this paper, this apparatus was applied to prepare the raw powdery materials of Y-Ba-Cu-O superconductors. Although these raw materials were treated in single calcining and grinding process, the obtained superconductors showed the critical temperature of 90K class and the diffraction pattern of orthorhombic crystal structure of Y-Ba-Cu-O. On the other hand, when a dry vibration ball mill was substituted for this apparatus, a calcining and grinding process had to be repeated several times to obtain the product of the same quality.
It was found from the above results that this method was an effective one to prepare the raw powdery materials of ceramic superconductors.
