Local Structure of Amorphous Nb₃Sn Prepared by Mechanical Alloying

Abstract

The structural changes in Nb-Sn mixed powders during solid state amorphization were observed by XAFS. Mechanical alloying of Nb-Sn mixed powders leads to the formation of A15 Nb₃Sn which then transform to an amorphous phase. The short range order of the amorphous Nb₃Sn alloy is analogous to the short range order of the A15 structure.
