Abstract
A female infant, 2 years and 6 months old, presented with bilateral breast enlargement. She underwent MRI of the brain revealing no anomalies. While a cystic lesion of the right ovarium was detected with ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen. Hormonal studies showed elevated estradiol level, decreased luteinizing hormone (LH) level and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level. Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone stimulation test (LH-RH test) suppressed LH and FSH levels. We diagnosed that her enlargement of the breasts was a symptom of precocious pseudopuberty due to the hormone-producing right ovarian cyst. Resection of the whole cystic ovarium was indicated. Pathological diagnosis was corpus luteum cyst. Serum estradiol level reached in normal range after removal of the ovarian cyst. This case of precocious pseudopuberty considered to be a secondary reaction from autonomous estrogen secretion of this ovarian cyst.
