Intussusception due to heterotopic pancreatic tissue is a rare condition. We report a case of ileal heterotopic pancreatic tissue causing ileo-ileal intussusception in an infant. A 4-month-old boy was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit of our hospital with a chief complaint of impaired consciousness. On the next day of admission, the boy was referred to our department because a bloody stool was observed on an enema. The patient underwent ultrasonography and was diagnosed with ileo-ileal intussusception. The patient’s condition and the ultrasonographic findings suggested the difficulty of enema reduction and the existence of a pathological lead point. Therefore, we decided to perform an immediate emergency operation without performing enema reduction. Resection of the necrotic ileum was performed followed by Hutchinson’s maneuver; the postoperative course of the patient was uneventful. Histopathological diagnosis of the lead point was heterotopic pancreas of the ileum. We report this rare condition and discuss the epidemiology and clinical features of intussusception caused by heterotopic pancreas, with a review of the literature.
