We report the details and usefulness of a new management method using LAP PROTECTOR® that achieved improvement in a case where managing intestinal fluid leakage from a jejunostomy was difficult. The patient was a 45-year-old male with severe physical and mental disabilities following congenital esophageal atresia surgery. He had gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes for enteral nutrition, but persistent chemical dermatitis around the jejunostomy and malnutrition led to prolonged hospitalization. Owing to his parents’ advancing age, the need to place him in a care facility increased. He was referred to our hospital, aiming to improve skin damage and nutritional status and simplify management. After transfer to our hospital, LAP PROTECTOR® and E·Z Access® were applied to the jejunostomy to reduce intestinal fluid leakage. Within two months of initiating this management, the stoma decreased in size, and the surrounding dermatitis improved markedly. As the previously leaking intestinal fluid became reabsorbed, the patient gained approximately 4 kg in weight. One year later, no adverse events such as skin or mucosal disorders were observed. Management using the LAP PROTECTOR® for peristomatal dermatitis caused by intestinal fluid leakage is considered a minimally invasive, simple, and useful method.
