Background. Pulmonary ossification is a rare disease which is usually diagnosed by surgical lung biopsy and necropsy but rarely diagnosed by bronchoscopy. Case. A 32-year-old woman was referred to our hospital due to an abnormal radiological finding of the chest revealed in a medical examination. Computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple nodular shadows with calcification in bilateral lung fields and therefore bronchoscopy was performed. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid showed no significant findings. Transbronchial lung biopsy revealed bone tissue deposited in the alveolar space. Additional examinations did not show any underlying disease and hence the patient was diagnosed as idiopathic pulmonary ossification. Conclusion. Bronchoscopy is a less-invasive examination which can be useful for diagnosing pulmonary ossification.
